Avocado criollo
Cali, Colombia – December 2022
A Colombian market vendor shows a fresh, halved avocado “criollo” for sale in the street market in Cali, Colombia. Avocado has always been a highly consumed food in Colombia, due to its high nutritional value, but also because of the highly favorable climatic conditions for avocado cultivation in the Colombian mountains. Although the per capita consumption rate of avocado in Colombia is one of the highest in the world, the vast majority of avocados consumed consist of traditional, green varieties known as “criollo”.
