Barranquilla, Colombia – November 2022
Shara Guzman and Mariale Contreras, Venezuelan aerial dancers, perform during an art performance in an industrial space in Barranquilla, Colombia. Aerial silks, a type of performance art combining sport (gymnastics) with acrobatics and choreography, allows the aerialist to perform in three dimensions while hanging from a specialist fabric. Employing their strength and flexibility, they climb, wrap, and drop themselves in various aesthetic figures. With dance being a natural way of expression for many Latinas, all forms of aerial art and acrobatics have become increasingly popular in urban zones of Latin America in recent years.
